Our Club is now in its 36th year.
Holt Bowls Club was formed in 1988, an amalgamation of the White Lion Men's and Ladies' Bowls Clubs. Here is a picture of our opening
day.
We started as a club playing Federation Bowls in several leagues. After two years the Men affiliated to the Norfolk EBA, followed by
the Ladies three years later affiliating to the Norfolk EWBA. Over the years we have played in various leagues. We now have a Mens EBA cup team and 4 Mixed Federation teams, all playing
in the evenings and 2 Federation Mixed teams playing in the NANSA leagues, plus friendly matches, played in the afternoons.
We started off with approximately 50 members and soon had a waiting list - capped at 200. Over the years, like many other clubs, the
numbers have decreased we now have approximately 68 members and growing again.
Our green belongs to the National Playing Fields Association and at the beginning was open to the elements. The Association erected a
fence around the green. A Leylandii hedge was supplied by the members and laurel cuttings were nurtured by Dr. Latten from his own laurel hedge until ready for planting at the Woodfield Road
border. Now stalwart club members do all the cutting, scarifying and maintenance necessary to keep the green in excellent condition, whilst others work hard to keep the clubhouse and
premises looking good.
